Vaasa Baroque and Carl Knif Company present Bländad av död och kärlek (Blinded by Death and Love) – a choreographic work of art in which Italian Baroque and Argentine tango meet contemporary dance.
Musicians, singers and dancers come together to create a musical and choreographic space where the music of Claudio Monteverdi, Barbara Strozzi and Astor Piazzolla interacts with the shifting expressions of contemporary dance.
In the spirit of Early Baroque, musical and choreographic conventions are established, only to be gradually refined, challenged and broken down. Through music and dance, the audience is invited to a journey through musical expressions and eras, characterised by powerful emotions, passion and the forces of nature. It is a journey that brings us ever closer to humanity’s eternal questions about existence, faith and liberation.
In the performance, the rhythmic and affect-rich expressions of Early Baroque and Argentine tango meet the transience and brutality of life. Human insignificance, passion and rationality coexist and collide through physical expression and choreography. Bländad av död och kärlek is a performance where bodies reverberate and instruments dance – a space where the past and present resonate together.
